RESEARCH
STUDY DIRECTOR: UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE ANALYSIS AND STUDY
OF CHILD CARE USE AMONG SINGLE MOTHERS
Social scientist needed to start in October 1997 to lead two new
projects: an analysis of the use of Unemployment Insurance by
low-wage and women workers, and a study of how child care choices
affect the employment opportunities of single mothers. For both
projects, the Study Director will analyze large data sets, draft
final reports, and supervise a research assistant/intern.
Candidates must have experience with multiple regression analysis
on SAS (preferred) or STATA and the Census Bureau's Survey of
Income and Program Participation (SIPP). A Ph.D. and familiarity
with unemployment and child care issues are strongly preferred.
This is a full-time, 12-month contract with the possibility of
renewal.
For the first three months, the Study Director will work full-
time on an analysis of Unemployment Insurance use by low-wage and
women workers in two states, using existing data sets. After the
first three months, time spent on this project will drop to a few
hours per week. For the next 9 months, the Study Director will
lead a study of child care use among single mothers, with a
special emphasis on the child care needs of women who work
nonstandard hours (such as nights and weekends). This project
will be full-time (excepting time spent on the Unemployment
Insurance project).
Salary and Benefits: Salary range to the low $40,000s,
commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance,
