EAST TIMOR ACTION NETWORK
ACTION ALERT
Contact Congress Today or Monday!
All members of Congress can be reached through the
Capitol Switchboard 202-224-3121
The Foreign Operations Appropriations conference committee will finally
begin meeting. The Foreign Operations Appropriations bill (HR 2159) is the
East Timor Action Network's top legislative priority.
If you live in a conference committee member's district or state (see list
below), contact them immediately. Urge him or her to support the language
in the Senate version of the Foreign Operations appropriations bill which
would restrict weapons sales to Indonesia. (Under this bill, any agreement
for the sale, transfer, or licensing of any lethal equipment or helicopter
to Indonesia must state that the weapons will not be used in East Timor.)
If you do not live in a district or state with a conference committee
member, urge your own Senator or Representative to indicate their support
for this provision. House members should contact Charlie Flickner or Bill
Inglee of the Foreign Ops subcommittee staff (225-2041). Members of the
Senate should contact Senator Leahy's office (224-4242).
