Selam AEPSA Board Members,
I was totaly overjoyed to read your Annual Report for 96-97. When
President Isayas addressed the first conference of Eritrean professionals
in New York, I and many of my friends had misgivings about your
association. It seemed our view was justified the following many years
after. The government want out on the limb, calling on a
segment of our society in the diaspora, an elite group, which was out of
character for our government. This was indeed a sore point for me and
many of my friends.
To add an insult to injury, the response from the Eritrean professionals
and academicians were next to zero, individual efforts being the exception.
It is indeed with great pleasure to see organized efforts to affect change in
Eritrea. I feel like the momentum is snowballing, and want to encourage
each and every member to give his all, without the egos getting in the way.
This is probalbly part of your agenda, but I think AEPSA would do more if
it can root itself in its community. If individual members are encouraged
and supported to mobilize their communty, if they get involved in the dirty
task of community building, many mountains could be moved.
Wishing you the success in your endeavors.
