If my questioning of the real identity of "Selamawit" has created an
atmosphere where people think that they are being scrutinized, and thus
feel no purpose in posting in dehai, then it was not meant to be.
That there's an element of generalization in my postings on users of
"hotmail" is obviously self-evident. My apology to any well-meaning
dehaier who uses hotmail.
Secondly, I always and will always defend the right of anyone voicing his or
her opinion, however divergent it may be from mainstream, even if it
demolishes my own arguments. No society can grow when opinion is supressed.
But free speech comes with a certain level of responsibility that entails
no infringement on the welbeing of others. Regardless of Sherlock Holmes or
what have you, no one has the right to disguise himself or herself under
an assumed name and demand respect from others. You're only free until
you temper with the freedom of others. And honestly, I don't have respect
for anyone who has no guts to tell me in my face what he thinks of me.
It's just the cyber version of the one who gossips about you behind your
back. No, thank you.
