Dear Dehai Members:

Please allow us to share with you some of the highlights of the second
annual EAA (Eritrean Accounting Association) meeting held during the
Eritrean festival in D.C., on August 17, 1997.

After brief introductions and the approval of the minutes of last years
meeting, the President, Araya Debessay, briefed those who were in
attendance on the major accomplishments of EAA during its first year of
existence. The President stressed the fact that the major focus of the
executive committee and the membership drive committee, was on building
the membership base of the association. The President stated that he was
pleased with the outcome of these efforts, citing that EAA membership had
now reached 34, of whom two are from Canada, two are Eritrean professional
accountants residing in Nairobi, Kenya, and the rest from the U.S. Among
its 34 members, EAA also has three student members.

The other significant accomplishment as reported by the President was the
submission of A Critical Analysis of the Accounting Curriculum at the
University of Asmara. The President reported that he was pleased to learn
that several of the recommendations made in the report have been adopted
in the revised curriculum and those that require university-wide adoption
have to wait for a university-wide curriculum revision.

Next, the chairman of the membership drive committee, John Tesfazghi,
presented a draft of EAA Members Handbook. Once completed, John told the
members in attendance, the profiles will be distributed to EAA members.

The members also amended the by-laws of the association to reflect AEPSAs
name change to AEPAD, and to allow more than one person to serve an
office.
