Selam Dehaiers:
I truly do not understand this seemingly excommunication of fellow Dehaiers.
I am relatively new to this process and have greatly enjoyed the lively
debate, and yes, even the "put-down" chatter (builds character). Each
person, in my humble opinion, has the inalienable right to express
themselves freely. So what if the discussion gets a little out of hand.
When you feel passionately about a subject, regardless of what it is,
buttons are going to be pushed and you may act or react in a manner that is
not typically you. That is OK. Why are people trying to silence another
for being passionate? I do not understand.
In this country, the freedom of speech is the first amendment ot the
constitution. I cannot speak for anyone other than myself, but I, for one,
am fascinated by the frank and very real discussions of politics, flags,
languages, etc.
You see, I am an African-American and was introduced (taught) only one
language (English), so I can appreciate the love and protection of a "mother
tongue". I have none. So appreciate what you have, whether it's seven
tongues or two. I know of only one flag, the red, white and blue. It never
meant anything to me except oppression, so I can appreciate discussion
regarding the love of a symbol of freedom.
Politics, on the other hand, it just that, politics. It will never change.
We will always live with two sides of an issue. It is good to debate them
out. Sometimes, we must agree to disagree and go on.
I am one of the silent Dehaiers, but I speak today. I vehemently object to
people taking a "vow of silence" or a "sabbatical". Our people in this
country COULD NOT talk for 400 years. Do not, I repeat, do not, elect to
sacrafice your freedom of speech to pacify a few. I just ask that you
remember to respect one another and don't allow the sun to set on your wrath.
Peace,
K.
