Selam Salome,
You have my permission. Thanks for the kind words.
I'm hoping Ghideon to give us the algebraic solution
for the puzzle.
Here is a story, the same teacher, Kifleyesus Adhanom (my idol)
told the class that same year (1962), a sad year for Eritrea
(abdication of
Federation). You may want to tell the story in your Family Class.
Enjoy!
This is in memory of the teacher that told it. He was killed in the
Massawa bombing
While working as a School District Supervisor.
There was this young boy whose father died and being raised by his mom.
As the boy became big enough
to collect woods from the forest he started doing so and began to help
his mom by giving her money from the sale.
Every day he goes to the woods, his mom would pack him a nice bag lunch
but he never got a chance to eat them.
On his first trip he rans into a snake that was trying to kill a rat to
feed on it. The boy kindly asks the snake to leave the
rat alone. The snake replies that 'he' would leave the rat alone only if
the boy gives away his bag lunch. The boy gives
his lunch away and lets the rat go free. When the boy returns home with
money from selling the woods, his mother
graciously would hug him, kiss him and ask him if he liked his lunch.
The boy replies "thanks mom, it sure was delicious".
The next day he went to the woods, he finds the same snake trying to
kill an eagle. The boy gently asked the snake if
it would let go the poor eagle . The snake replies , it would only do so
if the boy could give him his lunch. This kind boy
gives away his lunch and lets the eagle set free. When he went back home
he told his mom how greatful he was for the delicious bag lunch she
made him. The third time, he let a frog set free. The fourth time the
snake amazed at the boys generosity and kindness,
decides to do him a big time favor. He wants to get him out of his
misery ( poverty). He tells the boy that he really isn't a snake but
the son of the king who decided to change himself to a snake because he
was angry at what his father, the king, was doing to the people. He
tells the boy to go inform the king that he had found his son. He
warns the boy , no matter how much the king makes offers as a reward,
to only ask for a magic ring the king always has under his tongue.
(To be continued.....)
Sorry . It is becoming contagious

Selam Negga,
Thanks for the puzzle from your mom. It is a good exmple of what I do
in
a program called Family Math/Science. Since we try to make the program
multicultural and we say parents are educators, with your permission I
would like to use the puzzle. We may have to give the traders and the
camels names to make it easier for little children.
My answer is: Trader #1 gets camels 1, 5 & 9= 15qs.
" #2 " " 3, 4 & 8= 15qs.
" #3 " " 2, 6 & 7= 15qs.
I came up with my answer in long and involved way using pencil and
paper and other manipulatives. Please send the algeberic process to
solve the probelm.
Thanks I really enjoyed the puzzle. It meant a lot to me that yopu
shared
this puzzle in honor of your mom.
Selam & ridette to all of us.
Salome Gebre-Egziabher
