selamat Saleh and Dehai,

I will not attempt the task of responding to Dr. Tekie's
(liberal/progressive/socialist or whatever) arguments, which I think were
directed at uh...conservatives and "Muhuran akal" abundant in dehai, for I
confess I'm neither of the later two. But Saleh, as an example of
determining "whatever you believe" and sticking with it, you refered to the
recruitment practices of the EPLF/ELF in the 70's, which I vividly remember
the reverse to be true; that is, it was the EPLF who was severely
criticizing and "mercilessly" rediculing ELF's recruitment efforts - forced
conscription of young people to its ranks - in 1977-78. (To be fair, they
were right on target; for even the ELF rank and file questioned the practice
and held it against their own leadership in various meetings and seminars;
'cause basically the participation until that moment had been voluntary, and
forced conscription went contrary to that spirit). But later on, the EPLF
forgot or were forced to forget, I don't know which, their opposition to the
said practice and started recruiting the same way. Therefore, I believe it
must have been an EPLF "kfli hzbi" cadre who responded sheepishly, "Let me
check with the E[P]LF leadership!" when he/she was confronted with the
question? What do you say, ya abu SelaH ?

Who better to say such things than that gentle and peaceful man!

Paulos.
