After a recent series of tragedies in which childeren have been killed by their
parents, justice minister Winnie Sorgdrager called on the police and the
judicial authorities to exercise restraint when releasing information on such
cases to the media. There is evidence that parents who have taken the lives of
their childeren have been ifluenced by reports of pervious cases.
Since Jan 1997 more than 18 childeren have been killed by both or one of their
parents.In two case both parents tried to commit suicide after killing their
childeren and failed.
